Poolbeg Towers
The Poolbeg Towers are the two distinctive red and white chimneys of the Poolbeg Generating Station, located in the Ringsend area of Dublin. Although they have been inactive since 2010, they remain a protected and iconic landmark on the Dublin skyline. The first chimney was completed in 1969, with the second following in 1977.
The chimneys stand at over 207 meters (680 feet), making them among the tallest structures in Ireland. They were part of the Poolbeg Generating Station, which provided electricity for Dublin. Following a public outcry over plans for demolition, the chimneys were listed as protected structures in July 2014.
